About Us
Association Rzavia was founded by like-minded local people in late 2022 for the purpose of establishing the river
Rzav as a sustainable tourism destination in the region of two municipalities in Western Serbia, Arilje and Pozega.
The initial idea for creating the project was developed during the International Sustainability Academy program. The
International Sustainability Academy is a project of the German Forest Protection Association and it is fully funded
by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The program offered young
professionals from the D.A.C list of developing countries, facilities, and the opportunity to advance an individual
research project on one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda and subsequently
implement the findings in their home countries. Association, official website, and strategic documents are all
outcomes of what was produced within the project titled ’Visitor Center Rzav’ during which cooperation was
established with relevant organizations, tourism professionals, and other valuable stakeholders.
Association is a non-profit organization that does not claim to have legal authority on branding and developing
tourism in the region around the river Rzav. However, all activities and initiatives by the Association, are planned and
implemented with the common interest of preserving the river Rzav and providing valuable benefits for the local community.
